The Yawlung Clan is made up for many strong houses, mostprominent are Yawlson, Skarson andUlfmadsson. The old fathers Clan hasstood now for 220 years and was made pact during the reign of Kettle the Blackand the forming of the Kingdom now ruled by King Harald Fairhair, 1stof his name. However, 30 years ago theClan was split up by the command of their warlord, Halfdan and his brother Ivarto go Viking in Engeland and settle a new home. For many years, the Danes enjoyed success across the North, East andMidlands of Engeland, however a harsh defeat and the loss of most of the Clansfathers in Reading left Merca Yawlson one of the only original Norseman to havetravelled over, as most were born in Engeland. Even the Old father Yawl Ravenclaw, once Chief of the Yawlung Clanfell. The Warlord and now King Guthrummade peace with the Engelanders and Merca found this an empty and spinelessbetrayal. After returning to thesettlement in East Anglia, Merca announce it was time for the Yawlund Clan andits Sons and Daughters to truly return home and be reunited with the rest ofhis family…
12 years ago the raids began on the lands of EarlHarrolfeng, a number of small farm steads where burnt to the ground and allmurdered. Then the trouble spread intoEarl Bronson’s territories and for a time the Earls blamed each other andnearly went to war. It wasn’t until thesolstice feasting hall at Brabham was destroyed that the two began to work witheach other. King Harald Finehair warnedboth Earls that if this problem wasn’t dealt with by the following summer, hewould deal with it and they would pay him. It was this point that the homesteads of Eingfeld Yawlson’s we’redestroyed and the clan began to pull tight and take on the honour ofprotectors. Both the Earls have agreedto pay the Yawlung Clan great wealth and help re-build their homesteads if theproblem is dealt with by the summer. Atthis point, all the surviving family members of the Yawlson’s are under theprotection of Earl Bronson, at his great mead hall and Harenden.
The winter camp of the mountain pass has been left formany years in disrepair and Eingfeld Yawlson has returned there to rebuild itand set up a number of watch posts. TheEasterlings have been testing the borders but all had been very quiet for a fewmonths until 2 nights ago, when a surprise attack on one of the Watch postsleft 12 dead. Eingfeld is determined tobring the Easterlings to heel and see them to the clutches of Fenrir, however,he is now short of men and his rider has not yet returned from Harenden withre-enforcements from Earl Bronson. Itswill be a cold and hard winter for the Yawlung Clan, but all their fortunes areabout to change one way or another…
Three weeks have passed since the battle at the Ulfmaddsonfarmstead, where, for the first time in over 30 years the Yawlung clan took thefield as a whole. The reuniting of brothersMerca and Eingfeld Yawlson and their families had been foretold in a reading ofthe runes and written in the signs. Nowthe Yawlung stands firm and ready for any test. However, a great mystery filled with intrigue has unfolded since thereunion and the threat from the East would appear to be carved from pine ratherthan Cedar as originally thought.
A plot to unhinge the region has been discovered andincludes Visigoth mercenaries and Saxon overseers. On a night raid at an Easterling camp, acaptured Saxon commander gave up a riddle to who was funding the mercenariesand now the Yawlung is reaching out for help, but even Earl Bronson is notbeyond suspicion. This has caused greatconcern with Eingfeld, as all the Homelander’s families took shelter at BrabhamHall, under the Earls protection before the Yawlung’s return to winters campwas made, some 2 months ago. At a Thing,it was decided, honoured Leaf, 1st of his name would go to Brabhamand learn what truths he could. If thethreat was indeed coming from Brabham, then he would rescue and return thefamilies to the long house at winter’s camp and the Clan would appeal to EarlHerrolfeng’s council.
The clan also discussed the need to arrange slaves towork the Yawlung mines and it was decided new trade routes needed to be made asthe old ones had proven to be untrustworthy and treacherous. It was also decided, one of the two shipsMerca had left from his return from Engeland would be taken by Halfred, cousinto Toki, who ouwld travel a week in both direction of the coast and find newtrade. The ship would also travel to Ramsgradand collect the slaves needed for the mines.
Merca decided to turn the other ship, into a warship sothe Yawlung harbour could be rebuilt and protected.
A call to all Yawlung and friends has been made acrossthe land and beyond, as the East is rising and a battle is assured, the Yawlungwill rise with it and meet it head on!
The question is where and with whom will it be.
After countless battles across the Yawlung lands theEasterling enemy has been defeated and retreated back across the border. The victors found a huge chest filled coinand treasures but the trail of the Saxon’s has gone dead. The Easterling war chief has also ceased allthe other raids into Yuttgan and for now the land can breath.
However…due to the demise of Jarl Bronson and the burningof the great mead hall of Brabham. Avacuum of power has been created. Itsstill not understood why his brother Halfin Bearclaw hasn’t claimed the Jarl’sposition, but more worrying was that he burned to the ground his spoils anddestroyed the town of Brabham too, killing everyone. Bearclaw disappeared after the slaughter, alongwith his men and have not been seen since.
Whilst travelling to the Hall of Anduin after the call ofYawlung had been heard, a number of Scarsson heard rumours in the villages theystopped in that one of the Clans of Yuttgan where thinking of calling achallenge to all for the Jarls chair. Itwas then decided after many talks that the Yawlung would be the first to makethis challenge and make offer of the Hall of Anduin to be the place forcontest. Aesa and Afi left the Yawlungto travel to the other halls of the 5 clans and offer the challenge out. In only 3 days, all of Yuttgan had risen andthe clans are on theyir way to Anduin hall to except the challenge. For 2 days, great feats of bravery andsacrifice will be made and the victor will see its family rise to the greatoffice of Jarl. For the gods will havechosen them.
On the Saturday night there will be a feast to celebratethe contests and a great sacrifice will be made. We ask everyone to make an effort andcook/prepare something in a large bowl forthe sat nights feast. Only 2 weeks have past since the contest ofthe Call of the Jarl where concluded and now 3 ships, 1 of the Yawlung Clanand 2 of the Fangtooth clan are making their way across the westernsea and are on course for the Orkney. For the readings spoke of such a prize, all of Uttgan would rejoice andFreya’s blessing would be placed on all that returned. However, 2 days from their home shores thewinds picked up and a storm began to strain the rigging and before long, theparty found them selves in a storm of such, only stories had told. For 3 more nights and 4 days the boats, lashed together where left in the hands of the Gods and their dreams haunted bythe great serpent. Finally, the boatshit land but two of them took damage to their hulls. After dragging the boats on to a craggyshoreline, it was decided some would go and find materials to repair the damageand the others would investigate their unlucky arrival at a land that seams tobe made of black rock. However, after ashort climb, the cliffs revealed a lush countryside made up of woodlands andopen fields. Now the adventure begins.

The journey for Merca Yawlson back to Engleland began with a farewell of good fortune and omens of Thor in hismind. They had returned home to findEasterlings roaming his homelands and open war across his borders, but after along and hard fight, his foes were to dust all Uttgan was released to rebuildagain. Now it was time for him to returnEngleland and be reunited with his wife and family and bring them home. He took with him his trusted friend, Justin,a Christian monk, yet like so many before him a ring bearer of the Yawlung.
But this was not meant to be…

By the will of the gods, those who left to raidAngeland have returned, measured and tested. Although a storm heralded theirdeparture, calm seas welcome their return. The ships lack the numbers they onceknew, and those who have returned have given oaths which not all will keep.Their deeds will fuel great tales, which will be laid at their feet in thehalls of Valhalla.
The sun begins to wane in the sky as the festival ofJoltide begins. A celebration of the end of the old year and the beginning ofthe new. A time to drink, to feast, to tell tales of deeds past and promises ofwhat will be. For three days, all will be lost in riddles and games. In the newyear, by the will of the people, and blessed by the gods, a new Jarl will leadthe people against their enemies, old and new.
Excitement is catching like fire throughout the landsof the Yawlung as rumours of the Pskov caravan spread, heralding the return ofold friends, exotic exports and tales from faraway lands. This Joltide themerchants bring more than trade, though. Now is the time to remember old oathsand bonds, and the face of your fathers.
