SUMMARY:Hoist the Colours: Nightmare
DESCRIPTION:FilmSim events and EYELarp proudly presents a Kitty Dobson & Johnny Fisher production: \nHoist the Colours: Nightmare  \nOctober 31st – Nov 2nd 2025. \nWelsh Drive\, Eversley \nTickets priced at £100 for with a £60 part-payment\nPlease see booking details below.\nTickets capped at 40 Player and 30 Crew \n  \nHoist The Colours: Nightmare is a one-shot horror larp\, spinning off from our long-running Pirate LARP Hoist The Colours. \nWe’re taking our inspiration from the classic look and feel of such great Pirate adventures with horror tropes as Pirates of the Caribbean series\, Master & Commander: Far Side of the World\, and and more modern interpretations of the genre like Black Sails\, Our Flag Means Death\, and The Lost Pirate Kingdom\, and games such as the Assassin’s creed IV: Black Flag & Greedfall. \nAs always with EYELarp’s FilmSim games\, we are encouraging high production values and will be striving for a cinematic feel and look at everything we do. \nAs with all our games\, Hoist The Colours is set in a fictional pocket of history to allow all potential players to have fun with the early 18th Century aesthetic without worry of discrimination based on “historical attitudes”. \nRacism\, sexism\, homophobia\, transphobia and any language or attitudes of a discriminatory nature are not welcome at our event. \nThe main rule is: react to everything and don’t expect a specific reaction. \nSetting\nIt is 1725\, and the Golden Age of Piracy is dead. All those who sail the seas under the black flag are the enemy of the Great Powers; the Royal Navies of Great Britain\, France\, Spain\, Portugal and the Netherlands hunt down pirates relentlessly as they seek to conquer the last corners of the map. \nYou are one of a dying breed\, more and more of your fellows are hauled off to Tilbury or Port Royal or Tarifa and hanged\, drowned or beheaded every month. You may have seen the sacking of Nassau\, been radicalised by the stories of it or even have worn a red jacket and been on the side of King and Country. The world is getting smaller\, and the liminal spaces where an independent adventurer can make a living are running out. \nIn the last few weeks\, what luck you have has run out. Most of you have been captured and placed in the hold of The Albatross\, a 70 Gunner 2nd Class Ship of the Line with a full complement of some of the worst marines you’ve ever seen. Some of you may be the gaolers that keep them chained\, seconded from more palatable duties for drunkenness\, insubordination or other minor crimes. \nThere is very little that separates the common criminals who sail under Black or under Jack – except the oaths they’ve sworn\, and shillings they’ve taken. \nWhen storms hit\, and ships wreck\, it’s every sorry bilge-rat for themself. \nNightmare Rules\nHoist The Colours: Nightmare is part of our Nightmare spin-off set of games\, which take a familiar setting and give it the “Treehouse of Horror” treatment. \nIt will be a one-shot\, and has no impact on the main story of Hoist – feel free to bring your character from that\, create someone new or bring back a dead character if you prefer. If your Hoist character dies at Nightmare\, they do not die in the main campaign of Hoist The Colours. \nWe also have a reduced amount of archetypes to choose from. This game has no economy\, so there isn’t much need for tradesfolk\, and we have merged the Buccaneer and Marine archetype into one martial one – Gunner – to simplify things. Gunners can choose the loadout they prefer\, from multiple pistols to two rifles\, or a mixture of both. Surgeons have also lost and gained abilities – bead bags are not part of this game\, but can conduct autopsies to discover more information about things that are happening around them. We have also added two new archetypes; Soothsayers\, who are mystically inclined\, and Chaplains\, the religious focal points of their ship. These are to offer more thematically relevant options that will push the story along\, in accordance with some of the spooky themes we’re working with.

SUMMARY:Hoist the Colours - Season 1: Episode 2 - Storms Brewing
DESCRIPTION:FilmSim events and EYELarp proudly presents a Kitty Dobson & Johnny Fisher production: \nHoist the Colours \nEpisode 2: Storms Brewing \nJune 23rd – 25th 2023. \nWelsh Drive\, Eversley \nTickets priced at £90 for the Early Bird with a £50 part-payment until the 1st April 2023.\nTickets priced at £100 with a £60 part-payment from the 2nd April 2023.\nPlease see booking details below.\nTickets capped at 75 players and 40 crew. \nStory so far \nSummer 1722 \nFive crews\, five captains\, five strong foundations on which the – still unnamed – island of Pirates rests its hopes. \nIt would be too much to ask for such people to be swift friends\, not when they have already lost everything due to the disagreements of foreign powers on the other side of the world\, but even so\, honour among thieves may as well be painted above the gates. \nWhatever the disagreements of their captains and crews\, five ships must be outfitted\, five ships must be crewed\, and five ships must heave together for this alliance to work. \nWhen one turns his back on the others and makes a deal with the enemy?\nWell then\, justice must be swift and fitting.\nA hand for a Hand. \nIsrael Hands is dead\, the trophy of his death mounted for all to see in the village square. Few of those who once sailed with him have anything to say in his defence. Impatience with in-fighting surely pushed him to seek the security of a Privateer’s Letter of Marque\, but in betrayal and death he has managed something he never managed with force of will in life alone – unity. \nThe hatchet is buried\, let the crews of the Santiana and Chariot not speak of it again. Presumably\, the crews of the Diamond\, Marengo and Devil’s Daughter give a sigh of relief as all can finally focus on what is important – treasure. \nIn the months since the pirates first took possession of the island that Blackbeard had left them\, work has been done to make it more of a base for the crews who call it home by those who elected not to throw in their allegiance with a single ship but instead take what freelance jobs the captains were willing to pay for. With the assistance of those crews who\, by lack of resources or need of refit were unable to take to the high seas this season\, there is a sense of hope on the breeze. \nAnd breeze there is. This region\, far out to sea to the east of the British Colonies of Virginia and Carolina is known for summer storms – a boon to a captain who knows how to use them\, but deadly to those who are unlucky enough to make a mistake. \nWith ships still out on patrol\, trading and keeping to their bloody trade\, there are those on land who whistle old tunes to keep away bad luck\, for every old mariner knows a rough sea can be as lethal as a becalmed one – but the outcomes of each ship’s actions this season are yet to be known to all… \n———————————————————————————————————————————————— \nThe game will run from Friday 23rd June – Sunday 25th June 2023 \nRegistration will be open from 17:00\, with a safety and game brief will be at 20:00 \nTime in will be: \n21:00 till 01:00 Friday\, \n10:00 till 01:00 Saturday\, \nAnd 10:00 till 13:00 Sunday \n  \nFeel free to join the Hoist the Colours Facebook group: Hoist the colours  \n

SUMMARY:Hoist the Colours - Season 1: Episode 1 - New Beginnings
DESCRIPTION:FilmSim events and EYELarp proudly presents a Kitty Dobson & Johnny Fisher production: \nHoist the Colours \nEpisode 1: New Beginnings \nOctober 7th – 9th 2022. \nWelsh Drive\, Eversley \nTickets priced at £85 for the Early Bird with a £45 part-payment until the 20th July 2022.\nTickets priced at £95 with a £55 part-payment from the 20th July 2022\nPlease see booking details below.\nTickets capped at 50 players and 30 crew. \nStory so far \n  \nIt is 1721\, and the Golden Age of Piracy is coming to an end. \n  \nIn the winter of 1718\, the Crown retook the island of New Providence and its famous capital\, Nassau\, but it wasn’t as simple as the broadsheets made it out to be. The rebel Captains of the Republic of Pirates were forced out\, or sold out and were given the King’s Pardon in exchange for hunting down their fellows. Some were hanged\, some died at their guns\, but many escaped to cooler climes and other opportunities. \n  \nA year passed\, and it became clear that they were a dying breed\, begging for scraps. The hunting grounds of the Caribbean were now the fortified trade routes of four empires\, and without a friendly port to guarantee refit\, the danger of taking on a British\, Spanish\, French or Dutch frigate was often too high to countenance. \n  \nIn 1720 the stories started to be told. A Pirate fleet could be assembled; the likes of which no Empire had ever seen. Over a hundred independent Captains working together to form a Pirate Armada to chase out the navy of King George forever\, and show the world that the Republic was not just a brief dream. Some disagreed\, but many were won over\, taking their ships and persuading their allies to follow the figureheads of the last of the Pirate Council who once ruled Nassau. In the Spring of 1721 they met\, and sailed. The Pirate Armada of the Free Republic of Nassau sailed for the first and last time\, gathering speed and numbers as it thundered along to the island it once called home. \n  \nA home where it was met by the full force of the British Navy. Over a hundred ships of all shapes and sizes from the free captains\, against sixty frigates\, a dozen Third Rate Ships-of-the-line\, four ninety-gun Second Rate Ships-of-the-line and the pride of the British Navy\, the HMS Britannia.\n\nIt was a bloody day for Pirates: great names like Calico Jack\, Charles Vane\, Benjamin Horningold\, Mary Read\, Ann Bonny – the greatest pirates of their age – either died or were captured and hanged in the newly re-established British port of Nassau by Woodes Rogers. \n\nBut not all was lost that day. During the heavy fighting\, five ships manage to escape amongst the chaos of the shot\, smoke and screams. They collected those who were left sinking by the crown as they focused on the ships still showing fight\, taking as many people on board as they could before they were claimed by Davy Jones.\n\nOne of these ships was captained by Blackbeard’s first mate – a ruthless and puritanical pirate by the name of Israel Hands – who led these five ships north for fifteen days across open seas\, avoiding any land or ships that crossed their path. On the sixteenth\, Hands’ ship\, the Santiana\, flagged to dock in the next island cove\, but the other crews looked about with alarm – there were no coves nearby on any chart they possessed. The nearest land was six days north or eleven days west\, the only thing they were likely to find in this salt-ridden waste was a slow death by becalming and the thirst that came with it. \nBut then\, out from the sea spray on the horizon a shimmer of light. Land ho! As if hidden between the sea and the sky themselves.\n\nRumours always abounded about Blackbeard’s secret island and how he escaped the Crown for so long\, and this must be Blackbeard’s final gift to the Pirate Republic. \nA place to start anew. A trick of the light from that old trickster. \n  \n———————————————————————————————————————————————— \nThe game will run from Friday 7th October – Sunday 9th October 2022 \nRegistration will be open from 17:00\, with a safety and game brief will be at 20:00 \nTime in will be: \n21:00 till 01:00 Friday\, \n10:00 till 01:00 Saturday\, \nAnd 10:00 till 13:00 Sunday \n  \nFeel free to join the Hoist the Colours Facebook group: Hoist the colours  \n
