Pancake-fueled Mayhem
Crewing is a great way to try out LARPing if you’re new to the hobby, get some experience in a variety of roles and learn the ropes.
As a crewmember for EYELarp, you will play anything from fighters to tricksters to more plot-drop characters, or even regular ‘in town’ NPC’s if needed. Imagine the players are the protagonists of a movie or video game – we play every person, creature, monster or entity that they come into contact over the weekend. It’s a lot of changing your hat and learning as we go, but it’s a ridiculous amount of fun to be part of and the crew are always friendly to new faces. It’s also an excellent way to introduce your friends to LARP!
There are positions for every skill level, so do not fear if you prefer to be a combat wombat without too much need to speak, or enjoy charismatic non-combat parts that let you flex your wit – we can find a place for all.
The crew role at EYELarp is to be part of the event and give the players the fun experiences they can froth about in pubs and on boards for years to come.
Also, we feed you! For the vast majority of our games, we feed crew Breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturdays and breakfast on Sundays. As the event starts at 9pm on Fridays, we expect you to arrive fed and ready to go. All meals are hearty, with vegetarian and vegan options as standard – please get in touch if you have specific dietary requirements and we’ll do our best to feed you. There are also tea and coffee making facilities outside the onsite kitchen which you can help yourself to all weekend.
A full brief of the game we’re running and any specific kit required will usually get posted up on the Facebook Event or the EYE CREW group – there is a list of basic things to bring with you below.
We have dozens of events under our belts already and crewing is a great way to bring the awesome communities from other games and event organisations together – leaving lots of people with new friends and options for new games in the future.
Come join us for a cracking weekend of roleplay!
General Crew Ethos
Though each game is different (and you’ll see any special notes on each game’s page) the general rules for crewing are pretty much the same throughout.
There’s plenty of room for camping and we’ve got plenty of spare kit and weapons, though of course you’re welcome to bring your own!
- a camp bed/air bed and bedding
- drinking water – we recommend bringing a personal supply of at least 2L per day. There is no plumbing onsite but we provide a limited amount for crew to take out on missions and jerrycans of water for washing and boiling.
- an in-character bowl and drinking utensil
- your preferred snacks
- a torch
- appropriate base layers for the game’s setting and solid footwear
Here’s what some of our regular volunteers say about the crewing experience:
Crewing at EYELarp, for me personally, is one of the best ways to start Larping.
Overall it gives you a taste of a certain game, and also lets you play so many cool roles. I’ve played as a dumb hillbilly playing with dynamite to (one of my favorite so far roles!) being a mecha-raptor equipped with all sorts of weapons for the players to take down on an alien planet. It felt amazing, like I was some sort of end boss. But the best bit about crewing is hearing the players stories about how they took down this beast or gang of bandits and knowing I made that happen. Also, its a FREE! way to larp and see my friends and also the amazing food!

Crewing at EYE Larp is such a fun and positive experience.
EYE Larp looks after its crew at all times, ensuring they are fed and watered, and safe during combat.
You get the opportunity to play a diverse range of characters, use EYE Larp’s huge range of props and costumes, use the beautiful surrounding woodland and custom made buildings for encounters and combat, and make lots of great new friends along the way.
I would recommend crewing with Eye Larp and will certainly return in the future!

Crewing at Eyelarp is a varied beast.
It opens doors to systems for those who want a look in on a world before jumping in as a player or simply those who love the idea of bringing their many character concepts to life all in one event. Roles are varied from combat, to leadership, to the downright bizarre… *makes chicken noises*.
Each of the times I have been crewing we have really bonded, pushed and supported each other to really make NPCs and PCs come to life and thrive.

After crewing a whole bunch EyeLarp events, I can solidly recommend it.
As much as I can talk about the games and the site, the biggest plus is the people.
The event organisers are excellent in looking after their crew, and there’s a solid band of EyeLarpers who are both great to spend a weekend with, and who are open and welcoming to newcomers.
