Legio: Nightmare
Whatever Happened To The Lost Legion?
Legio: NIGHTMARE takes place in 120 AD, the last recorded date of the IX Legion’s existence. This is 170 years AFTER the regular Legio: SPQR campaign, well into the Imperial era of Rome. Players will take the place of members of the 11th Cohort of the 9th Legion Hispania, following our usual method of adding a fictional auxiliary cohort onto the historical 10 cohorts of the legion.
The Ninth is the famous Roman Legion who, sometime between 108AD and 120AD, leave the annals of history forever, with little explanation as to what happened to them. This is our interpretation…
We’re using an interpretation of our usual Nightmare Rules that we’ve had in place at three runs of Flying Lead: Nightmare so far – think of this as a “Treehouse of Horror” episode: characters (or their descendents) can be pulled from the main campaign for this one-shot, even ones who are dead in the canon of Legio: SPQR. Feel free to put together an entirely new character for it too if you wish!
This game is inspired by TV Shows such as HBO’s Rome and Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and classic films such as Centurion, The Eagle, Gladiator and Spartacus. As with our other Nightmare game, Flying Lead: Nightmare, we see this as having a high character death rate, but there will be options for your character once they find themselves in the fields of Elysium… or not.
As with all EYELarp games, we have set Legio: SPQR in a fictional pocket of history; the Ninth Legion were indeed real, and present in the majority of places we have set them within the known world, however there were only ever ten cohorts in every Legion: the Eleventh Auxiliaries are entirely fictitious.
