Story So Far

Summer 51BC.

The power struggle in Rome continues between Pompey Magnus, Consul of Rome, and Julius Caesar, Governor of four provinces and Commander of four legions.

The Triumvirate died two years previously with Crassus and Julia; The former, the patron and counterbalance for his two colleagues, and latter; daughter of Caesar and wife of Pompey who smoothed over their relationship in the eyes of the plebeians and patricians alike. Without them, Rome is in the hands of two men whose ambitions no longer align. Civil war may be on the horizon, but for the time being politics is played with the gain of land and resources, not Roman blood.

Narbo; a town of little consequence to the senate, yet at the crossroads of the Via Aquitainia and Via Domitia, the first Roman road to cross Gaul. While nearby Marseilles receives the patronage of Pompey Magnus, Narbo is now the home of veterans of the 10th Legion, settled there by Julius Caesar. It is a town on the up, or so Caesar is betting. All it needs is bread and circuses and the provincials will be cheering his name – circuses provided by a new Ludus set up by the lifelong friend of Tribune Tarquinius – Agrippina Maxima.

A perfect place to resupply after a challenging few months on campaign in Gaul – and perhaps a perfect opportunity to raise the profile of the XIII in the eyes of Caesar.

________________________

The second (official) instalment of Legio: SPQR will be set six months after their snowy expedition to Gaul. As Legionnaires, all players will be expected to work together to set up camp, keep everyone fed and watered and take up whatever duties the legion requires. Simple and hearty in-character food is included in the ticket price, and we will have a tavern operating in the town of Narbo with some provincial drinks (a keg of ale), and you are welcome to bring your tipple of choice to put behind the bar.

Death on campaign is frequent and medicine rudimentary, but the XIII Auxiliaries are always recruiting. We do not have bead pulls or death counts in this system; we expect players to go by the rule of cool, fight cinematically and give game to healers. Death is a massive part of the Roman world. If your character is injured beyond their ability to continue service or is killed on campaign, choose a new province of the empire and rejoin – it’s very simple!

Story So Far

It’s been three months since the hanging of the legendary outlaw Henry King. Plenty has happened in the better part of 1880: Botched hangings; gruesome murders; an all out attack from Confederate sympathisers; fireworks and a mayoral election which saw a gunsmith by the name of Jack Carson become the new Mayor of Juno Valley. His main aim is to bring justice to the valley with the promise of cheaper munitions, better rewards for bounties, giving the sheriff and the good people of the valley better ways to defend themselves and scrapping the Rileys’ Tax.

His first three months have been pretty uneventful, with the occasional run in with the Rileys but they are quick dispatched due to Carson’s focus on justice.

But what the people of Juno Valley know is uneventful don’t mean a damn thing – cause it’s always the quietest before the storm.

Good Mayor Carson invites the people of Juno Valley to come a celebrate the end of the harvest and Allhallowtide

Story So Far

Months have passed since the Crews of Logans Bay left Salvation and the rest of the Colonial Archipelago in their wake for the possibility of a free life, and a new free port in Frontier. They now must decide what to do next…

A story was told to them, by both the tribes of the Hugantii and Tuatha. A legend was passed on, which may have raised more questions than it answered. Hook, Pan and Heron; three names familiar to those who have been washed up on these waters, and three names that the Frontier folk know too. Answers were sought – a cave, filled with carvings and potent with visions of its past, unfortunately destroyed by the scientific brotherhood of the Collegium of Lisbon, also seeking its knowledge for their own ends.

One place is left that may have what they need – the Temple of the Crocodile. But will it offer them a way out… or simply the end?

Welcome to the exciting new season of Land Without a King! With the epic events of the previous years’ campaign, the story of Albion is set to enter new territory as the heroes and villains of our troubled little island struggle to rebuild, following the catastrophic civil war.

When the tide turned for the Pretender known as the Thistle King, and the Knights of the Pendragon Court stepped over the bodies of his fallen army, the highlander turned his rage inward. If he could not wield it, no one would. Using the last of his strength – borrowed from a fae spirit, some say – he brought the flat of the blade down onto his knee and sundered his sword into pieces.

The tide had turned, but when the mists of battle cleared, the Thistle King, and Excalibur, were nowhere to be seen…
Without the sword, there could be no tourney to determine First Knight. Without the sword, the remnants of Uther’s Kingdom seemed as shattered as the sword he once wielded.

With no sure course of action, the Lieges and Knights of the Knights’ Council returned to their holdings, to see out the harvest, make preparations for winter, and tend to their own.
The following year, each region had problems of their own to manage, and although many came to the aid of their fellows, there seemed more pressing issues than travelling with baggage trains and retinues for a few days tourney and carousing, regardless of what politicking may be done.

The bond that held together the realm was beginning to fade. Some Nobles even found themselves wondering if the dream of a united Albion was something only fools sought, and made preparations to strengthen their borders. Among these, however, no one wanted to be the first to declare their sovereignty. After all, to a serf, a Lord Bannerette is quite the same as the grandest Emperor.

While the country seemed more divided than ever, the College of Heralds worked through the darkest nights of winter and the most scorching days of summer. Calling all sworn to them to the colleges at Veralamium, Eburacum and Isca, the Conclaves set out their grand plan: A census. Of all the holdings known to be loyal to Pendragon. A great book of every person in Albion, from the lowest serf to the highest Liege Lady. The greatest scholarly undertaking since the fall of Rome.

They would call all the members of the Interregnum Court to the tourney grounds near the village of Alderley, to make their case. And if it reminds the Loyalists what they fight for – what they wait for – all the better.
